Feeling Stuck? Easy Steps Into AI Made Simple
Have you ever opened MidJourney (or any creative tool) and thought, I don’t even know what to type in here? You’re not alone —that’s exactly why I put together this AI made simple guide: to take the pressure off and help you just begin.
For me, my brain went completely blank. I couldn’t think of a single image I wanted or needed to make. I just wanted to create something. So I pivoted to my comfort-zone list: Australian shepherds, hummingbirds… and, of course, fairies and unicorns. Lots and lots of fairies and unicorns. 😂
And it was no easy task. Back then it was like: “You want a unicorn? Good luck. Want one with a single horn in the middle of its forehead? Don’t hold your breath!”
But you know what? It didn’t matter. The joy and anticipation were enough to give me permission to play. It didn’t feel like practice or learning — it just felt like fun. And lucky for you, AI image tools have improved so much in a short time that the learning curve is easier now than it was when I started. And that’s really the key, you just have to start.
Here’s my tip: start with what makes you smile. Look around your room. Notice one thing that feels good — a favorite mug, a stack of books, a cozy chair, even the plant in your window. Then describe it to MidJourney.
Add a style to guide it. If you can’t think of one, try these simple starters:
- watercolor illustration
- children’s book illustration
- colored pencil drawing
That’s it — you’ve got a prompt.
You’re Not Alone in Feeling Stuck
When I first started with MidJourney, I wasn’t trying to build a polished product. Honestly? I was just thrilled when something beautiful popped up from my messy little words. That one small image was enough to light the spark.
If you’ve been circling around AI tools but feel like you’re standing outside the playground gates, this is your invitation to take one small step inside.
Step 1: How to Start With AI Art (Keep It Simple)
Don’t overthink prompts. You don’t need ten modifiers, camera settings, or fancy jargon. Instead, start with one clear idea.Don’t overthink prompts. You don’t need ten modifiers, camera settings, or fancy jargon. Start with one clear idea.
Here are 3 beginner-friendly “wow” prompts to try right now:
- “a watercolor hummingbird hovering over bright flowers”
- “a magical sunrise over misty mountains, in soft pastel colors”
- “a cozy reading nook with a glowing lamp and steaming mug of tea, watercolor illustration”

✨ Each of these is short, clear, and likely to give you something lovely without overwhelm.
Step 2: Easy AI Tools for Beginners — Use What You Have
If you’ve grabbed my MidJourney 101 Checklist, you already know where to paste these prompts and what those mysterious buttons mean. you already know where to paste these prompts and what those mysterious buttons mean. No worries, if you don’t have it yet, you can grab it here — it’s a lifesaver when everything feels confusing.”
And if words still feel hard, lean on affirmations. My free Creative Confidence Cards give you ready-made lines like: “I give myself permission to create just for joy.” You can even pair one of these affirmations with your new image. That’s a project — small, but powerful.
Step 3: Build Creative Confidence With Small Wins in AI
The magic isn’t in making it perfect. It’s in seeing something appear that wasn’t there before — and knowing you did that. That little win plants confidence like a seed. And seeds grow.
So save your image. Share it with a friend. Print it out. Or better yet, just smile at the fact that you moved from frozen to finished. That matters.
And remember — a small win doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as taking one image and pairing it with a few words that inspire you. Here’s an example:

See how even a single image paired with an affirmation can feel complete? That’s the power of small wins — they remind you that confidence doesn’t come from doing it all at once, but from practicing in little ways that light the path forward.
Beginner AI Art Tutorial: A Quick Tip for Dabblers
Already played in MidJourney or another AI art tool? Here’s your nudge: take one of your past prompts and refine it with a new style. If your old prompt was “a sunflower field,” add in watercolor or as a children’s book illustration. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel — just give it a fresh twist.
A Gentle Reframe
You don’t need to master AI to benefit from it. You don’t need hours of free time, or a giant deck, or a shop full of printables. What you need is one moment of courage that turns into one little creation. That’s where confidence is born.
Your Weekly Mini-Challenge
Try one of the prompts above this week. Just one. Type it in, let the AI do its thing, and see what shows up. Then, if you’d like, choose a line from the Creative Confidence Cards and pair the two together. Congratulations — you’ve created something real.
And if you do? Share it! Post in my Facebook group, or reply and send it to me directly. I’ll celebrate every tiny step — and the giant leaps that come with practice and time.
A Thought to Take With You
“Confidence doesn’t grow from standing on the sidelines of the playground, watching others create. It grows when you take a step forward, play a little, and practice until it feels natural.”
Wrap-Up
You don’t have to stay stuck. In fact, your first small win is waiting for you — all it takes is one simple prompt and the courage to try.
Here’s to making magic,
